Preparing for Easter

April 3, 2009

Resurrection Day will soon be upon us once again, and although many people have different ideas about how this momentous occasion should be celebrated, I think we can all agree that it is indeed a day for celebrating. You can read about some of the activities our family engages in here, in last year’s post. That was when we were just starting to formulate some traditions for the day. We have a few more ideas this year and will begin preparing our hearts in the coming week.
I read Nancy Wilson’s sentiments about Easter after the fact last year, but after reading it again just now, I have to recommend it for consideration. After presenting the case for making it a BIG deal, she encourages us to make it happen, even if we’ve not begun planning yet.

“So ladies, it’s not too late. You have a week. Make it a party at your house. Jesus is risen! Let’s not be long-faced about such an earth-shaking event!…If you don’t have any Easter traditions yet, then go ahead and start some now.”

I don’t know about you, but my family doesn’t need a whole lot of convincing to have a party with a good meal attached. So there is no doubt in my mind that it will happen on this occasion, when we remember the Resurrection and celebrate our hope.

Thankyou, you reminded me to take out Noel Piper’s book. What a blessing that has been. Happy Easter Week, Em
